Recently Business and Investment Expo 2018 successfully took place in Toronto. The Expo was organized and led by the Canada-Afghanistan Business Council (CABC) with active assistance from the Afghanistan Embassy in Ottawa, the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Toronto, Global Affairs Canada, and other stakeholders. Prominent members of the Afghan business community and their Canadian counterparts and members of parliament were among the attendees. In continuation of these efforts, Chargé d’affaires of the Afghanistan Embassy, Mr. Mohammad Nader Yama met with Executive Director of the Trade Facilitation Office Canada (TFO) Mr. Steve Tipman on September 11, 2018. Potential areas of business engagement and bilateral trade for Canada and Afghanistan were discussed and firm promises for future engagement and collaboration were made between TFO and the Afghanistan Embassy. Promoting TFO’s Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) interventions and their possible adaptation to use for Afghanistan were among other topics of discussion in the meeting. To further these relations and have a more robust and active role in trade promotion, the Afghanistan Embassy has recently welcomed Mr. Abdul Hakim Nasiry as Trade Attaché in Ottawa and is looking to build a strong Trade Unit led by the Trade Attaché. Mr. Nasiry’s experience in economics, trade, and investment is a great asset for the Afghanistan Embassy to further facilitate more efficient steps towards trade opportunities between the two countries.
