The Consular Section accepts applications from Afghan nationals residing in Canada for various legal certificates and authentication of documents issued by a legal entity or government authorities in Afghanistan. These services include Issuing: Birth Certificate, Power of Attorney, Letter of Inheritance, Validation/Authentication of Documents, Marriage Certificate, Documents for Transferring Deceased to Afghanistan, Absentee Tazkera (National Identification), Entry Permit to Afghan Nationals, and Police Records.

These services can be provided by the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Toronto and Vancouver.


Applications can be made either by registered post or in person.

The applicant is required to send a registered returning envelope containing his/her complete address along with a dully completed application form and the required documents. The Embassy of Afghanistan will not take any responsibility for loss of documents sent by mail.


Those applying in person should apply at the Consular Section of the Embassy during the section’s official hours which are:

Application drop off: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Document(s) Pick up: 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

The Consular Section is closed outside these hours, on Saturdays and Sundays, and on official Canadian and Afghanistan Holidays.

In-person applicants will receive a ‘return tariff’ which must be presented to the Consulate Section on the pre-specified date to collect their documents. In-person applicants can request delivery of their documents by registered post in which case they must submit a registered, self-addressed return envelope along with their application.

All applications will be processed in the order they are received by the Embassy. After the Consulate Section has received dully completed application form with all required documents and applicable payment(s), the application process will commence. Applications that are incomplete and/or missing necessary requirements, will not be processed, in which case the processing fee will not be refunded.


After the Consular Section has received completed application form with all necessary documents and payment(s), document authentication or certificate(s) will normally be issued within 5 Working Days.

Please be advised that the processing time will be adjusted if your application is denied for the following reasons:

    • Application form not completely filled out,
    • Important information is missing, and/or
    • The supporting documents presented do not meet the requirements requested
    • Any other reason
  • A fast-track processing service is available as per the applicant’s request which costs additional USD 23. Fast track service normally takes 24 – 48 hours.


In person pick up during working hours without an appointment. If you are not able to pick up your documents in person from the Embassy. You can authorize another person with written consent letter and a valid photo ID.


The Embassy accepts fees in U.S Dollars only. We no longer accept Canadian Dollars.
