Inheritance Certificate

General Information

The Consular Section issues inheritance registration certificate only to Afghan citizens residing in and apply from Canada. Applications for inheritance registration must be submitted in person.

Applicants must contact the Consular Section in advance to book an appointment. During the appointment, the applicant must bring all the necessary documents. The Consul will conduct an interview which may last one to two hours. In some cases, the applicant will be asked to return on a specific date and time.

Inheritance Registration Requirements

Presence of the applicant at the Embassy

  • Two Afghan male adult witnesses or four Afghan female adults if male witnesses are not available.
  • Presence of the Applicant
  • Inheritance registration form duly completed and signed (LINK OF APPLICATION FORM)
  • Original or copy of Tazkera
  • Documents verifying current residency status in Canada such as Permanent Resident Card, Citizenship Card, Landed Immigrant Document or Visa
  • Documents verifying current address such as driver license, utility bills or similar documents

Presence of three male adult Afghan confessors at the Embassy each must meet the following requirements

  • Original or copy of Tazkera
  • Documents verifying current residency status in Canada such as Permanent Resident Card, Citizenship Card, Landed Immigrant Document or Visa
  • Documents verifying current address such as driver license, utility bills or similar documents
  • Two standard size photos (2×2 inches), one affixed to the appropriate box on the application form (Photo must not be older than 6 months, it should have a white background)

    Presence of two male or four female or one male and two female Afghan witnesses at the Embassy each meeting the following requirements:

  • Original or copy of Tazkera or Afghan passport
  • Documents verifying current residency status in Canada such as Permanent Resident Card, Citizenship Card, Landed Immigrant Document or Visa
  • Documents verifying current address such as driver license, utility bills or similar documents
  • Two standard size photos (2×2 inches), one affixed to the appropriate box on the application form (Photo must not be older than 6 months, it should have a white background).
  • NOTE: The confessor should not be one of the heirs blood related

Fees: Power of Attorney fee (USD 126) – must be directly deposited to Afghanistan Embassy TD Bank Account (Click here for account information)

Duration of the process

Normal Service: Generally it takes 5 Working Days for the issuance of the power of attorney document.

Same Day Services: Power of attorney document can be issued on the same day which will cost an additional fee of (USD 23).
