The Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa issues visas to individuals residing in, and/or applying from, Canada. Visas are also issued at the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Toronto and the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Vancouver.

Applications for visas can be made either by post or in person.

The Embassy will not take any responsibility for loss of documents sent by mail.

Those applying in person should apply at the Consular Section of the Embassy (located at the address above) during the section’s official opening hours which are:

Passport drop off: 10:00am to 12:00pm.
Passport pickup: 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

The Consular Section is closed outside these hours as well as on Saturdays and Sundays.

In-person applicants will receive a ‘return tariff’ which they must bring back on the specified date to collect their passport(s). In-person applicants can request for their passports to be returned to them by post in which case they must Pay $16 USD Payble only to Bank Postal Account .


Applications will be processed in the order they are received by the Embassy. Applications that are incomplete and/or are missing necessary documentation will not be processed, in which case the processing fee will not be refunded.

After the Embassy has received completed application(s) with all the necessary documents and payments, the Embassy forwards the applications to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul for approval. Once the approval is received; the visas will normally be issued within 10 Working Days. A fast-track processing service is available for exceptional cases which will incur with additional charges.

Applicants are requested to avoid making any travel arrangements before obtaining their visas. The Embassy will not accept any responsibility for any delay in obtaining your visas or changes in your travel plans.

All applicants, whether applying by post or in person, must submit the following Documents as part of their application package:

  •  Visa Application Form – fully completed and duly signed.
  •  The applicant’s passport (passports must be valid for at least Six months)
  •  Two photos (2 X 2 inches), one affixed to the appropriate box on the application form (photos must be freshly taken and identical, taken directly off the face and show both ears with a light background)
  •  Documents verifying the applicant’s current address in Canada, such as driver’s licence, utility bills, municipal papers, etc.
  •  Applicants travelling for employment or business purposes must provide documentation from their present or prospective employer or the organization concerned verifying purpose of visit.

·       To apply for the Work Entry Permit, Applicants must provide the work permit (letter) issued by the Government of Afghanistan only.

  •  Visa processing fee (see the fees table below) – paid only: To TD Bank Service Account .
  •  If requesting a “fast-track” service (24 hours), an additional paymet of USD 100 must be added to the fee amount.
  •  Postal applications for Visa must include a prepaid, Courier or registered, self-addressed return envelope.

All visa applicants are advised not make any travel arrangements before issuance of visa. The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is not liable for any delays in visa processing or any anticipated problems related to the visa issued to you during your air travel. In order to process visa applications for individuals who wish to apply for a tourist visa, they must provide the Embassy with an invitation letter addressed to the invitee and directly issued by a tourist agency, which is operational and registered in Afghanistan. In addition, visa applicants are requested to provide a personal written and signed letter stating that the applicant(s) is solely responsible for their or their immediate family member’s security for the duration of their stay in Afghanistan.


All applicants are, hereby, notified that they should make sure to have all required supporting documents available before depositing service fee to the Embassy’s bank account. The Embassy cannot return the service fee to the applicants, if their supporting documents are not complete, which in turn delays provision of the consular service to the applicants.
