Ambassador Bathija received a farewell by officials at the Department of Foreign Affaires of Canada

On March 18, His Excellency Sham L. Bathija, outgoing Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Canada met with Ms. Susan Gregson, Assistant Deputy Minister for Asia Pacific, Mr. Peter MacArthur, Director General, South Southeast Asia and Oceania, Ms. Angela J. Bogdan, Chief of Protocol, Ambassadors and other dignitaries and officials at a farewell event organized by the Department of Foreign Affaires Canada.

During the event Ms. Gregson expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Department of foreign Affairs to Ambassador Bathija and mentioned that during his tenure Ambassador Bathija worked hard with all levels of Government and Public sector, participated on all events official or public, contacted personally the families of fallen soldiers and conveyed the message of People and Government of I.R. of Afghanistan especially he was honoured for participating in Honour’s Day event and his remarks, his close relationship with Canadian Embassy in Kabul, and many other positive contributions, just to make the relationship between Afghanistan and Canada better and stronger.

Ambassador Bathija, as well expressed his gratitude to all Canadian officials for their warm friendly relations with this Embassy during his posting, which shows that Canada-Afghanistan relationship is for long term and he hoped that this will go on with other Afghan Ambassadors as well. He spoke at the event and promoted private sector involvement with Afghan private sector institutions; he also acknowledged Canadian involvement in Railway Sector.

Meanwhile Ambassador Bathija introduced Mr. Dawood Qayomi, Political Counsellor of the Embassy to be in Charge of the Embassy as a Charge d’Affaires, until the new Ambassador is posted. At the end, Ambassador Bathija presented handicrafts made by Afghans in Afghanistan as an example of progress in the country which was supported by the international community and especially Canadian Government, to dignitaries and hosts.
