Ottawa, 5 December 2016- Her Excellency Shinkai Karokhail , Afghanistan Ambassador to Canada, met Julia Bentley, Acting Director General, South Asia and her colleagues at the Afghanistan division for Global Affairs Canada to discuss Afghan and Canadian bilateral relations, appreciating the new Canadian pledges at the recent international conferences at Warsaw and Brussels and exploring opportunities in expanding this partnership in the areas of trade and mining sector in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, Ms Karokhil appreciated Canada’s contribution to stability and development in Afghanistan in the past one and half decade and the future commitments. Between 2017 and 2020, Canada pledged 412 Million Canadian Dollar to support security, development and humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan. The prime focus of these pledges would be women and children have access to basic education and health and provision of socioeconomic opportunities for women during these years. Both countries are looking to improve visibility of relationship by initiating and facilitating high ranking official visits to Canada and Afghanistan.
Her Excellency the Afghan Ambassador on the case of Canadian Joshua Boyle and his family kidnapping has stressed that the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has taken the issue very seriously and will do anything possible for the release and safe return of the Boyle’s family.
