Ottawa, 8 June 2017- Her Excellency Shinkai Karokhail, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Canada, met with the Hon. Rob Oliphant, Member of Parliament for Don Valley West-Toronto, and member of Canada-Afghanistan Parliamentary Friendship Group (CAPFG), at the Embassy of Afghanistan to discuss bilateral issues, role of CAPFG in strengthening of ties between the two national parliaments, and involvement of Afghan diaspora in broader economic, political and social issues in Canada.
Ambassador Karokhail expressed her gratitude to Canada for its continued support and commitment for the democracy and stability in Afghanistan.
Ambassador Karokhail addressed the ongoing insurgencies and deadly security threats from terrorist groups, who are enjoying state level support in Afghanistan’s neighborhood. She pointed out that for the sake of bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan and global peace, Canada should support Afghanistan in stopping terrorist groups from receiving safe havens in countries, such as Pakistan.
In reference to CAFPG, Ambassador Karokhail appreciated its important role in fostering of relations between the parliaments of the two countries. Also, it is a useful platform to engage Afghan communities with Canadian member of parliaments and give voice to their concerns in federal and provincial legislatures. Mr. Oliphant assured the Ambassador of providing utmost support in this respect.
